Archdiocese of Chicago’s Schools Celebrate Catholic Schools Week 2017

Sunday, January 29 is Catholic Schools Open House Day in the Archdiocese
“Catholic Schools Week is a special time for schools across the nation as we come together to celebrate Catholic education,” said Dr. Jim Rigg, Superintendent of Catholic Schools. “What sets Catholic schools apart is that Catholic schools educate the whole person – academically, spiritually, physically and emotionally – through an environment of faith, compassion and academic rigor. I am thrilled to get into the community and see first-hand all of the great things are schools have planned.”
 
Cardinal Cupich and Dr. Rigg, as well as other Archdiocese team members, will attend Catholic Schools Week activities across the Archdiocese next week. These activities include:
 
Sunday, January 29
9 a.m.

Cardinal Cupich will preside over the Thanksgiving Mass at St. Celestine Church, 3020 N. 76th Court in Elmwood Park. This Mass will celebrate the opening of Catholic Schools Week and the 80th Anniversary of St. Celestine School.
 
Monday, January 30
8:30 a.m.

Dr. Rigg will lead students, faculty and staff in a Catholic Schools Week opening prayer at Sacred Heart School, 1095 Gage Street in Winnetka.
 
9:30 a.m.
Cardinal Cupich will preside over a Mass at Regina Dominican, kicking-off Regina Dominican’s Catholic Schools Week celebration. Dr. Rigg will also attend the Mass, which will be held at Regina Dominican O’Shaughnessy Theater, 701 Locust Road in Wilmette.

Tuesday, January 31
8:30 a.m.

St. Paul of the Cross School, 140 S. Northwest Highway in Park Ridge, will host its annual Geography Bee. Dr. Rigg will facilitate the first round of questions during the Geography Bee in which 4th – 8th grade students will participate.
 
10 a.m. 
Our Lady of Tepeyac School, 2235 S. Albany in Chicago, will create a “100 Reasons We Love Tepeyac” mural in honor of the 100th day of school. Dr. Rigg will visit the school and assist with the mural development.
 
Wednesday, February 1
7:30 a.m.

Dr. Rigg will greet school families during the “Parents and Pastries,” parent appreciation event at St. Helen School, 2347 W. Augusta Blvd. in Chicago.
 
Thursday, February 2
9:30 a.m.

Dr. Rigg will attend an all-school Mass at Carmel Catholic High School, 1 Carmel Parkway in Mundelein.
 
11 a.m.
Dr. Rigg will personally thank the faculty and staff at Holy Cross School, 720 Elder Lane in Deerfield, for their dedication to Catholic education during an Appreciation Luncheon at the school.
 
1 p.m.
Students at St. Juliana School, 7400 W. Touhy Avenue in Chicago, will participate in the 3 “B’s” – Books, Board games and Buddy activities and Dr. Rigg will join in on the fun.
 
Friday, February 3
8:30 a.m.

Dr. Rigg will join students at St. Christina School, 3333 W. 110th Street in Chicago, in a variety of trivia and interactive games to celebrate the end of Catholic Schools Week.
 
10:30 a.m.
Dr. Rigg will compete with students, faculty and staff at Christ Our Savior School, 900 E. 154th Street in South Holland, during the school’s Scholastic Showdown Academic Bowl.
 

The annual Catholic Schools Week celebration is a joint project of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). Catholic Schools Week was established in 1974 to recognize Catholic education as a great gift to the Church and the nation.
