In July 2015, after a two-year internal review process, all Archdiocesan elementary and secondary schools were successfully accredited by AdvancED, the largest community of education professionals in the world. The Archdiocese of Chicago was the first Catholic school system of its size to undertake the extensive accreditation process.
The AdvancED accreditation process is used at all levels of education, and is recognized for its ability to effectively drive student performance and continuous improvement. The Systems Accreditation designed for Catholic school systems aligns the Archdiocese with AdvancED standards. This approach to continuous school improvement confirms quality assurance in the systematic review of Archdiocese educational programs to ensure that acceptable standards of Catholic identity, education, scholarship and infrastructure are maintained. Each year Archdiocesan schools collect and analyze data, set goals, plan, implement, and evaluate their school improvement efforts. This ongoing continuous review and evaluation of activities leads to authentic school improvement.
As part of the in-depth AdvancED accreditation process, which surpasses state standards, a group of educators, school administrators and superintendents from around the nation spent four days evaluating the Archdiocese of Chicago system and its school improvement efforts. The review included interviews with individuals, including parents, students, teachers, principals and board members. As part of the accreditation process, the Archdiocese must report to AdvancED its progress in addressing the team’s Improvement Priorities within two years and participate in a comprehensive review every five years.
Over the past 160 years the Archdiocese of Chicago has educated more than one million children. The independent accreditation from AdvancED validates that the Archdiocese’s tradition of excellence continues today.
