| Chicago, IL ( April 26, 2007 ) -On Sunday April 29, Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic elementary and secondary schools will participate in the National Day of Appreciation for Catholic School Pastors. Administrators, teachers and school staff at many schools throughout the Archdiocese are preparing students for this day by explaining just what a pastor does, and the impact of his leadership role at both the school and in the parish.
"With 217 elementary schools and 40 high schools throughout Cook and Lake counties, hundreds of pastors play a vital role in Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools, both in those schools affiliated with their parishes, as well as other Catholic schools their student parishioners attend. On behalf of all those involved in our Catholic schools, especially our students and their families, our sincere appreciation goes out to all our pastors," remarked Dr. Nicholas Wolsonovich, Superintendent, Office of Catholic Schools, Archdiocese of Chicago.
Students are encouraged to create their own thank-you cards, acknowledging all that the pastor does on their behalf. Select students from each class are encouraged to give the cards to the pastor to express their gratitude. Parent representatives of the home and school association and the local advisory board may also take a formal part in the celebrations.
Sponsored by the National Catholic Educational Association, Pastor Appreciation Day occurs each year on the Fourth Sunday of Easter, also known as Good Shepherd Sunday, in the liturgical calendar.
