In recognition of outstanding, unique and innovative accomplishments by individual teachers and non-administrative professional staff members, the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Office of Catholic Schools is requesting nominations for its’ 2007 Heart of the School Awards. Any Archdiocesan resident can make nominations — including students, parents and co-workers by clicking here — until October 16, 2006.
“These award winners showcase the exceptional dedication, leadership and service that exists in our Catholic schools and are delivering on the Archdiocese’s commitment to make schools Catholic in their identity, excellent in academics, and vital parts of their communities,“ says Dr. Nicholas M. Wolsonovich, Superintendent of the Archdiocese’s Catholic Schools.
Overall, fourteen Heart of the School Awards are presented; two each in the following categories:
- The Arts for teachers that instill a love of the arts among students;
- Behind the Scenes for non administrative staff persons that contribute to unique program successes;
- Catholic School Identity and Mission for teachers that display best practices in religious education while modeling a commitment to peace and justice;
- Innovation and Creativity for those that initiate and implement new classroom learning methods;
- Leadership for teachers that show exceptional classroom, school and community dedication;
- Rising Star for teachers with less than four years’ experience that exhibit vigor, excellence and innovative strategies in and outside the classroom;
- Technology for those that contribute to the integration of technology while affecting curriculum, student learning/interest, assessment and/or the learning environment.
All winners will receive a monetary award, a lapel pin and recognition by the Catholic School Leadership on January 18, 2007 at the Midwest Conference Center, 401 West Lake Street in Northlake. Schools will also receive plaques for the honorees.
