Statement by Sr. Kathleen Tait, O.P.
Assistant Superintendent for High Schools
Archdiocese of Chicago

  Chicago (May 20, 2003)

The Archdiocese of Chicago's Office of Catholic Schools is very sorry to learn of the alleged incident that occurred yesterday involving students of Gordon Tech High School.

The safety and security of students and all members of our school communities throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago is a priority.

Violence of any type, including threats, is not tolerated at any of our schools. Catholic schools communicate regularly and systematically to faculty, students and parents that any violation of a person or property is contrary to the mission of Catholic schools and warrants serious consequences. Every effort is made by school administrators to ensure that students benefit from learning in a safe, secure and nurturing environment.

We pray for the well being of all affected by yesterday's incident.
