  STATEMENT OF NICHOLAS WOLSONOVICH
SUPERINTENDENT OF CATHOLIC SCHOOLS
RE: Supreme Court decision on school vouchers

CHICAGO (June 27, 2002)

Today's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold parent's right to choose how they will use public funds to educate their children, signals a new era for all private schools.
We're pleased with the court's ruling, for it confirms that when public funds are made available equally to all, that faith-based schools are treated equitably.

This decision affirms that the U.S. Supreme Court believes in giving parents a choice in educating their children. This will empower parents and will strengthen both government and non-government schools.

The common good of all citizens will be served by this decision. This is definitely a victory for children.
