ST. BRIDE SCHOOL A TRADITION FOR LOCAL FAMILY

CHICAGO (May 22, 2002)

Attending St. Bride School, 7765 S. Coles Ave., Chicago, has been a family tradition for the Skaro family since 1929, when Mary Skaro graduated.

On June 12, Mary Skaro's grandson, Christopher, will graduate from the South Shore-area Catholic elementary school following in the footsteps of his grandmother, father, aunt, three uncles and three older brothers.

For his parents, Paul and Ines, Christopher's graduation from St. Bride is an important one but not the last for the Skaro family. The tradition will continue. Five of Christopher's younger siblings are still at the school: twins Stephen and Amy, grade 6; Jonathan, grade 1; Marissa, kindergarten; and Veronica, preschool.

Christopher's three older brothers graduated from St. Bride: Joseph in 1990; Paul in 2000; and Matthew in 2001.

Christopher's grandmother, Mary (Hogan) Skaro, lives near St. Bride and is an active member of the church community. She and her late husband, Joseph, wanted their children to attend the same school Mary attended, so Matthew graduated in 1961; John in 1963; Mary in 1965; Paul (Christopher's father) in 1968; and Gerard in 1972. Mrs. Skaro plans to attend her grandson's graduation next month.

Christopher is an altar server at St. Bride, a member of the basketball team and "has a great sense of humor," according to Principal Carole Palmore.

The Skaro family lives near St. Bride's and is active in both the school and the parish. Ines is chairperson of the school board.

Christopher will join his two older brothers, Paul and Matthew, at Mount Carmel High School in Chicago this fall. The Skaro family tradition of Catholic school education continues.
