
The Most Reverend Francis Kane, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago, Alderman Gene Schulter of the 47th Ward, and Sister Mary Paul McCaughey O.P., Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Chicago will gather with the school community of St. Benedict Preparatory Schools (SBPS) and leaders from DePaul University to mark the opening of SBPS and to celebrate the school re-visioning under the “Project Vision of Excellence.”

All 256 Catholic elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties will open for the 2010-2011 school year that will bring additions, expansions and innovative programming to a number of schools. On Tuesday afternoon June 1, 2010, faculty and students from St. Bartholomew Elementary School gathered in the Parish Church for an unexpected all-school assembly in the late afternoon. After singing "Peace is Flowing Like a River," reciting the Prayer of St. Francis, and the Pledge of Allegiance, the students were surprised to find Sr. Mary Paul McCaughey, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, and Mr. Josh Hale, Executive Director of the Big Shoulder Fund, seated in the front of the Church, along with other guests.

Chicago, IL – The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools announced today the results of standardized achievement tests administered in 2010 to third, fifth, and seventh grade students. The test scores demonstrate that, in every major grouping of schools, the students achieved scores above the national average for all subtests.
