    Dressed and Blessed

    I wore my Mom’s wedding dress at my own wedding. Hand-sewn by Mom, the dress featured yards of ivory satin flowing from the waist with delicate smocking of hand-stitched beads. The dress had no décolletage, no corset waist or other frippery of today’s fashion. Its timeless elegance would impart, I hoped, a bit of good fortune that my marriage would be as blessed as Mom and Dad’s.

    Everest’s 17th Golf Outing: Success!

    Lemont, IL: The sun shone brightly on Monday as golfers teed off for Everest Academy. The golf outing took place at Idlewild Country Club, a private club in Flossmoor, IL. This secluded 18-hole, par 72 golf course was the perfect setting for a memorable day. Golfers were greeted with arrival gifts, received professional golfing tips, and enjoyed lunch on the course and a banquet dinner in the clubhouse. Several prize holes and contests added to the fun of the day- “Beat the Priest” contest was a participant favorite with Everest’s very own Fr. John Bender, L.C.

    Shrek Jr. Comes Alive at Everest Academy

    Lemont, IL: Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical Jr., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. Everest Academy students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade captivated audiences with their talent, enthusiasm and humor. Under the direction of theater production company Night Blue, these young actors presented a musical well beyond their years.

    The School of Saints Faith, Hope and Charity/Misericordia Art Collaborative

    In its sixth year, The School of Saints Faith Hope and Charity (FHC)/Misericordia Art Collaborative provides cultural and art enrichment, and most importantly, new friendships. Based on thoughtful essays written by FHC students, twenty-four seventh and eighth graders were selected to participate. The art collaborative celebrated the Van Gogh Bedroom exhibition-which will be presented only at the Art Institute of Chicago this Spring. The exhibition brings together all three versions of The Bedroom for the first time in North America, offering a pioneering and in-depth study of their making and meaning to Van Gogh in his relentless quest for home.

    HFCA Redoubles STEM Focus Adding Second Science Lab

    Holy Family Catholic Academy (Inverness) has announced plans to add a second, fully-equipped science lab to support its hands-on approach to science education. Long recognized for its innovative middle school STEM program, HFCA is dedicating this newly designed lab to advance science exploration for students in preschool through Grade 5.

    MSW School Makes Pilgrimage to Holy Name Cathedral

    Mary, Seat of Wisdom School filled eleven buses with students from Kindergarten through 8th Grade and made a pilgrimage to Holy Name Cathedral on Thursday, May 5, 2016. This trip was planned in conjunction with the school's Catholic Identity theme, "Mercy in Motion", and the Pope's call for a Jubilee Year of Mercy.

    HFCA 7th Graders Heed Pope Francis’ Message and Win Archdiocesan Awards

    Students at Holy Family Catholic Academy (Inverness) gave witness to Pope Francis’ message to young people to “work for justice for everyone, everywhere.” Each student participated in the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Catholic Campaign for Human Development’s (CCHD) Multimedia Youth Art Contest. HFCA students Izabella Filip placed second, and Erica Halstead and Isabella Zepeda placed third in the Grade 7-9 category.

    Ss. Cyril and Methodius school launches major technology initiaitive

    SS. Cyril and Methodius School in Lemont announced the start of its 1-to-1 (1 device for every 1 student) Chromebook laptop initiative. The pilot program, which began in early April, provides the opportunity for every sixth grade student to have the use of a Chromebook to complete their coursework and enhance their educational experience at school and home.
