Pastors in Catholic Schools

“Little can succeed without their blessing,
while great things can happen with their support”.
-Faith, Finances and the Future, Notre Dame Study of US Pastors

With few exceptions, Catholic elementary schools are ministries of a Parish.  It’s where the term Parochial in Parochial School comes from and when you are looking for a school for your child, it’s important to know that a Catholic school is part of this local Parish community.  They are communities that support the school as an educational ministry, and the parishioners wish to see your children grow both academically and in their faith lives.

The leaders of these communities are called Pastors, and their role is to care for the spiritual and temporal welfare of everyone in the parish.  A Pastor’s responsibilities are wide-ranging and many are illustrated below:

Pastor Responsibilities

As you can see education is a major part of their responsibilities, and many Pastors do an amazing job of ensuring that the school is a place where families feel great about the choice they've made.  Of course Pastors don't do this alone, but with massive efforts by principals, teachers, staff, boards, committees, and entire school communities.

We are introducing a monthly series of videos that let you see Pastors making a big difference in their schools.

Each month we will post a new video, and we invite suggestions of other Pastors to be filmed and interviewed for this series.
