“The ACT® test assesses high school students’ general educational development and their ability to complete collegelevel work.
1.8 million high school students across the country take the ACT test each year, usually in the fall of their senior year. Illinois is one of the top five ACT test states. Students answer 315 questions in the four subject categories. The top score possible in the multiple-choice section of the test is 36.
Because students in Catholic schools use the same test as students in public schools in Illinois, it is possible to make an apples-to-apples comparison of the performance of high school students. 98% of Catholic school seniors took the ACT test in 2014.
